.) announces that it has completed the first phase of a major new diamond exploration initiative on the Superior Craton The Superior craton (or Superior Province) forms the core of both the North American continent and the Canadian Shield. It extends from Quebec in the east to eastern Manitoba in the west.  in Canada.

Following a year of data compilation and modelling involving an in-depth study of potential target areas, an extensive regional reconnaissance sampling program for diamond indicator minerals has been completed. The program was designed to

test over 800,000 square kilometres of highly prospective craton craton (krā`tŏn): see continent.  by careful consideration of the sampling medium in relation to the regional surficial sur·fi·cial

 geology. This area of the Superior Craton has recently become a focus for new diamond exploration in Canada, and one of the target areas studied hosts the Attawapiskat diamondiferous kimberlites. Several hundred samples have been collected and laboratory processing will commence before year's end. Results are expected during the first quarter of 2000, which will permit the initiation of a focused follow-up program early in the summer field season.
