The present treatment process is a preliminary analysis to identify diamond indicator minerals and microdiamonds. The 25 cubic metre sample will be treated for both micro and macro diamonds and the results will be released when available. The streams draining this pipe have historically produced macrodiamonds. The second diamondiferous pipe RX-181 was discovered by drilling of a priority No. 1 magnetic target. The RX-181 target was the fourth drilled on the project. The kimberlite kimberlite: see diamond. kimberlite or blue ground Dark, heavy, often fragmented igneous rock that may contain diamonds in the rock matrix. pipe was intersected at 25 metres and the hole was terminated in kimberlite at 120 metres. A 1,000-litre sample was collected from the hole for processing. The first 200 litres of this sample contains greater than 200 microdiamonds in the +0.25 mm size fraction. Microdiamond counting on this sample is continuing. The remaining 800 litres of this sample will be treated immediately and all size fractions will be examined to include macrodiamonds. Results of this analysis will be released when available. Additional drilling and bulk sampling of the RX-181 pipe will be carried out as soon as possible. The microdiamonds recovered from both of these pipes are of high quality with no inclusions. The Canabrava Joint Venture is comprised of 26 properties totalling 890,000 hectares and is located 400 kilometres southeast of the capital city of Brasilia. A drilling program initiated in mid-April 1996 to test over 500 priority No. 1 targets will be ongoing for the next 18 months. The joint venture partners are very pleased with the early success of the systematic testing of the targets. Based on the early results from the two diamondiferous kimberlites discovered and the necessity for large bulk sample testing of these pipes, Teck Corp., as operator is investigating various heavy media separation plants for the project. Canabrava Diamond Corp. is a 52-percent-owned (14,730,550 shares) subsidiary of Southwestern Gold Corp. (SWG-T). Under the terms of a joint venture agreement with Canabrava, Teck Corp. has the option to earn a 60 percent equity in the Canabrava Joint Venture area by spending a minimum of U.S. $10 million on exploration over a five-year period, producing a positive bankable bank·a·ble adj. 1. If a commercial production decision is made, Teck must arrange all financing, provide all performance guarantees and make a production bonus payment to Canabrava of U.S. $20 million less any option payments already made within 30 days of the commencement of commercial production. Teck also will have the option to purchase a further 10 percent (total 70 percent) by paying to Canabrava a cash value determined by independent valuation based on the results defined in the feasibility study. -0- Note to Editors: The Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal Stock Exchanges Montreal Stock Exchange See Bourse de Montreal, Inc.
