The company's head office is situated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the tallest building (CanWest Global Place) in the city and it is on the  Corp. announced today that it has submitted applications for 8 new specialty channels to the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC, in French Conseil de la radiodiffusion et des tĂ©lĂ©communications canadiennes) was established in 1968 by the Parliament of Canada to replace the Board of Broadcast Governors. .

"In response to the CRTC's call for applications, three entertainment channel applications were submitted based on themes of Mystery, Action and Romance programming," stated Peter Viner, CanWest's President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "CanWest has also continued its commitment to providing Canadians with news and information by applying for five regional all-news networks in the Maritimes, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia," he added.

"In addition to Prime TV, which we are launching on October 17th to over 5 million cable homes, this represents CanWest's continuing drive to be a major player in the specialty television business," added Leonard Asper, CanWest's Vice President Corporate Development.
