The company's head office is situated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the tallest building (CanWest Global Place) in the city and it is on the  Corp. announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, CW Shareholdings Inc., acquired 1,080,900 additional Class B Non-Voting Shares of WIC WIC - WAN Interface Card  Western International Communications Ltd., bringing its total Class B holdings to 5,883,808 Class B Non-Voting Shares, or approximately 24 percent of the outstanding Class B Non-Voting Shares. The purchase was made through a private transaction.

"We have increased our position in WIC at this time as a strategic investment in a major participant in the Canadian communications industry. We continue to consider alternative means to build our relationship with WIC and may continue to increase our investment in WIC's shares from time to time at acceptable prices," stated Tom Strike, CanWest's Executive Vice-President.
