Newcastle-based Kitchenware Records Kitchenware Records is an independent record label based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. It was founded in 1982 by Keith Armstrong and Phil Mitchell, and was originally part of The Soul Kitchen, an artist collective and nightclub. has been part of the region's music scene for more than a quarter of a century and has had a string of successful artists on its books, including local groups Prefab Sprout and Lighthouse Family as well as current indie favourites, the Birmingham band Editors. Kitchenware was set up in 1982 by a then 21-year-old Keith Armstrong Keith Armstrong (b. 11 October 1957, Newcastle, England) is a British/Finnish dual-nationality football manager and former player. The label was run by Keith and a group of friends at the back of the store in Newcastle and was publicised through a series of club nights the group held across the region. He wanted the label to be Tyneside's answer to those that had grown up in Manchester and Liverpool and it has grown into one of the country's most successful independent record labels with an influence far beyond the North East. Best Creative Business Award is just one of 12 categories open to successful firms in the region and the prizes are sought-after accolades which help to market the company. We will champion the most promising new businesses with a Newcomer of the Year Award. Since 2001 when the sub-regional heats were launched, around 1,700 companies have entered. That is a fantastic endorsement of the event and shows that it really means something to the business community. The judges are looking for entries from right across the region, from Tees Valley The Tees Valley is an area the North East of England. It can be described as "greater Teesside" and consists of the four unitary authorities created by the breakup of the County of Cleveland in 1996: Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton-On-Tees along with to the Borders, with competitions running for Tyneside and Northumberland, Durham and Wearside and Tees Valley before the regional grand final that will reveal the best of the best.
