Can resort owners teach newsletter publishers about marketing?

, a member of NL/NL's editorial advisory board and always one to look anywhere for newsletter marketing ideas, passed along to us some academic research that looked at illustrations vs. pictures for resort marketing.

 Stoica, in the Journal of Vacation Marketing, found that illustrations were better than photographs at getting consumers' attention. However, the study found that photographs were better than illustrations in creating a favorable fa·vor·a·ble

"So," Marlene said, "unless our newsletters are selling resorts, we are better off using illustrations--because they capture attention better. BUT ... if we're trying to draw people to our websites, then pictures are better."
