Can MDS data help prevent resident health problems? (In Brief).


A project entitled Using Prospective MUS Data to Enhance Resident Safety" will explore the feasibility of using computer data to predict and possibly prevent health problems in nursing home residents. Researchers will determine whether it is possible to reduce the number of falls, pressure ulcers, and urinary tract infections for the frail elderly in long term care settings by providing caregivers with computerized information based on assessment data gathered nationwide. Via the FLTC software EQuiP for Quality, the data will alert staff to the likelihood of resident health problems so that preventive measures can be taken.
