Campus review. (Newsletters and Magazines).

v.11, n. 29, 2001

An article on the qualifications of Australian academic staff, reveals that males holding higher degrees outnumber females by more than two to one. The perpetuation of this trend in a climate of `moral panic' around the `plight' of males in the education system suggests to me that males are most advantaged by the tertiary education experience despite the claimed `problems' with pretertiary education for males.

In another article, Megan Warin discusses her research on anorexia in which she found that rather than being a stigmatised psychiatric category, anorexia was a title desired and coveted by sufferers. Anorexics an·o·rex·ic (n-rk became part of an elite group; however, their forms of relatedness transgressed so-called rational modes of knowledge. Because the forms of connection between anorexics are not valued (and are actively discouraged), anorexia has come to embody exclusion, abjection and creation, all central features of relatedness.
