, Campus Pipeline Inc. Wednesday announced commercial release of the Campus Pipeline(TM) Web platform version 2.2.

Fifty of the nearly 600 campuses that have licensed the platform expect to be using it campus-wide this fall, strengthening Campus Pipeline's leadership position as an Internet infrastructure provider.

Ron Yanosky, a senior analyst of Gartner, estimates that this type of technology will have been implemented by 80 percent of all colleges and universities by 2005.

"The people at Campus Pipeline have been a pleasure to work with and have given us great support," said Andi Koenig, director of information technology at Vincennes University Founding as Indiana Territory’s University
Vincennes University is the oldest university north of the Ohio River and west of the Alleghenies. This institution was founded in 1801 as Jefferson Academy and incorporated as Vincennes University on November 29, 1806.
. "We have been running the platform for seven months, and we have already seen impressive results.

"We introduced Campus Pipeline to our students prior to integrating other technologies, and they found it intuitive and useful. We are very excited to update to version 2.2 and introduce more online services to our students this fall."

"Today's education environment requires colleges and universities of all sizes to have reliable Web infrastructures that can combine their intranet, extranet, campus services, distance learning, and the Internet into one environment," said John Dunn For the poet, see .

"Many of our schools tell us they want to implement now and realize immediate results because our platform also provides the flexibility schools need to expand their Web services (1) Loosely, any online service delivered over the Web. New Campus Pipeline Web Platform Features

New features in version 2.2 include the addition of course message boards, an access control user interface, and the iPlanet(TM) Directory Server.

-- Course message boards create a secure forum for discussions

between faculty members and students who are officially

registered for a given class. This feature provides long-term

viewing of shared documents and posted discussions.

-- The new access control user interface allows campus IT staffs

to distribute Campus Pipeline administration rights. Functions

such as the management of targeted announcements and the

editing of page content can now be delegated to the most

appropriate campus information managers, reducing the

maintenance required by IT staff and increasing the

availability of fresh, relevant content.

-- The iPlanet multi-threaded LDAP directory server operates as a

central repository of user data controlling preferences,

access rights, and security levels. Designed for large

deployments, the directory helps schools manage user names,

passwords, access control and security authorization for their

students, faculty and staff. With more than 175 million

licenses sold worldwide and approximately 70 percent of the

LDAP market (IDC, 1999), the award-winning iPlanet Directory

Server is designed to meet massive scalability and reliability

demands.
