Campaign urges all to explore the North East.A NEW campaign is being rolled out to encourage exploration of the North East outdoors. The aim of 'Outdoor and Active', is to highlight activities that can be enjoyed in Tyne and Wear Tyne and Wear, former metropolitan county, NE England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Newcastle upon Tyne conurbation and comprised five metropolitan districts: Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, , County Durham “Durham county” redirects here. It was launched yesterday by a team of adventure specialists who demonstrated how easy it was to get around the region by visiting top attractions. The Outdoor and Active campaign will run across Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley from now and continues through the summer. Its core theme is to encourage everyone to explore the outdoors that surrounds them and enjoy the health benefits associated with getting active - from walking to watersports, climbing to cycling. Andrew Dixon, executive director of Tourism Tyne and Wear, backed the project. He said: "Many outdoor venues are free, and there's so much to experience from our wide range of cycling adventures, to walking, horse riding, climbing, watersports and much more besides.
