Camp pepperoni.Matthew and Mike were setting up their tent. Even though their camp was in a field just behind Matthew's house, it still seemed like a great adventure. "My older sister, Marsha, is going to visit later. She'll bring match sticks and help us get the bonfire going," said Matthew. "A girl?!" said Mike. "We don't want a girl bothering us!" "She's been camping a lot," replied Matthew. "Maybe she'll have some good tips for us." "Well, I guess it's OK," said Mike. The boys took an old shovel and dug a small pit for their bonfire. Mike looked for medium-sized rocks to put around the edge of the pit. Matthew went out to look for branch of woods in a small grove of trees. When they returned, Mike arranged the rocks in a neat circle around the pit. Matthew pulled a heavy flannel jacket from his backpack. "It feels little windy," he said. "And I don't like the look of those dark forest," said Mike. "Marsha should be here soon," said Matthew. "Then we'll build a bonfire and cook the hotdog that I brought." "I have a deck of cards," said Mike. "How about a game of Go fish?" Just as the boys had crawled into their tent to play cards, a light rain began to fall. "Oh, great," said Matthew. "We'll never get a bonfire going now. Maybe we should make a run for the house." "Open up in there!" came a loud voice from outside. It was Marsha. As the boys opened the flaps, a delicious smell filled the tent. They saw that Marsha was carrying a flat cardboard box. Pizza!" the boys shouted. Marsha put the box on the tent floor. Mike looked over at Matthew and said, "Your sister has already taught us an important camping tip: be prepared!" |
