) Gerry Sarnat, M.D., will serve as Camino Healthcare's interim president and chief executive officer (CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. ) beginning Sept. 30.

This date marks President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Pettingill's final day at Camino Healthcare after his resignation, which was announced in late July.

Over the past several weeks, the Camino Healthcare Board of Directors has conducted a national search for Pettingill's successor. Board members will begin interviewing candidates later this week.

"I feel confident Dr. Sarnat has the talents and abilities to lead the organization through this interim period," said Doug Usher, chairman of the Camino Healthcare Board of Directors. "As we continue our search for a new leader for Camino Healthcare, Dr. Sarnat will ensure that we continue to develop a new, better health care organization - a system that will maintain the highest quality standards and ultimately improve the health of our community."

As executive vice president and CMO, Dr. Sarnat is currently responsible for system-wide clinical and administrative operations, as well as long-range strategy and leadership. Prior to joining Camino Healthcare, he was the senior vice president of Medical Affairs and Provider Services for TakeCare Health Plan, a California state-wide HMO with over 410,000 members.
