Cambridge SoundWorks to introduce low-cost powered subwoofer.

NEWTON, MASS.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 1996--Cambridge SoundWorks (NASDAQ-HIFI) announces the introduction of "Powered Subwoofer A speaker that reproduces the lower end of the audio spectrum. "Powered Subwoofer III" has been designed and priced at only $249 to bring the benefits of extended bass to smaller, affordable sound systems--such as "shelf" systems, component systems with bookshelf speakers and stereo TVs with built-in speakers.

"Powered Subwoofer III" can extend the bass response of such systems by as much as two octaves, turning an average stereo speaker system into a high-performance, three-piece subwoofer/satellite system.

"Powered Subwoofer III" features a heavy-duty 6 1/2 inch bass driver in a bandbass enclosure plus a robust 50-watt power amplifier Power amplifier

"Powered Subwoofer III" includes two input possibilities. A stereo minijack line-level input is provided for connecting to a system with line-level subwoofer or preamp outputs. Speaker level inputs are also provided, so that "Powered Subwoofer III" can be connected to the speaker outputs of a receiver, amplifier, shelf system or TV.

In addition, speaker output terminals are provided for the connection of existing speakers. Like more expensive powered subwoofers, the new Cambridge SoundWorks' unit includes an output level control and a phase reversal switch, to help achieve a seamless subwoofer/satellite blend. The cabinet of the "Powered Subwoofer III" measures 17 1/2 inches high by nine inches wide by eight inches deep.
