Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

MUNICH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 28, 2002

The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) and Cambridge Positioning Systems (CPS) today announced that the companies will co-operate to support Siemens IC Mobile's development of mobile location solutions.

The five-year deal will involve CPS licensing its innovative Cursor software to accurately locate mobile phone handsets within mobile networks.

Siemens IC Mobile will integrate the Cursor software into its mobile network product portfolio, which is used by mobile operators to rollout mobile location services See mobile positioning. . As part of the cooperation, CPS will also provide E-OTD (Enhanced Observed Time Difference) See mobile positioning.  software integration for Siemens handsets via its recently opened integration facility in Cambridge.

This will enable Siemens to rollout E-OTD enabled location-based network equipment and handsets to the growing US and other worldwide markets. The Cursor software utilizes the E-OTD (Enhanced Observed Time Difference) technology that offers GSM operators accuracy to within 100 metres - in line with the E-911 mandate by the U.S. FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  requiring location-enabled networks to be deployed.

"This is a major development for CPS. The licensing agreement is hugely significant for the profile of E-OTD technology as the high accuracy, cost effective solution for mobile location, " said Chris Wade Christopher "Chris" Wade was a former Whitewater real estate broker.

Chris Wade was the real estate broker for Jim McDougal and Bill Clinton for the Whitewater Development Corporation. He sold the lots for the Clintons and McDougals.

"This cooperation sends a very positive signal to the US market and beyond - that mobile location is happening right now using the powerful experience and knowledge from both Siemens IC Mobile and CPS," said Lothar Pauly, board member of the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group. "In terms of personal safety, mobile phone users will shortly have the reassurance of high accuracy mobile location services."

Cambridge Positioning Systems Limited (CPS) develops and licenses its Cursor(TM) E-OTD (Enhanced Observed Time Difference) system to handset manufacturers and network equipment vendors. The company is working with, or has licensed its technology to Ericsson, Nortel Networks (Nortel Networks Limited, Brampton, Ontario, www.nortelnetworks.com) A world leader in telecommunications products, which includes switching, wireless and broadband systems for service providers and carriers, telephones and systems for residential and business users, computer telephony , Siemens and Lucent Technologies.

Cursor(TM) delivers high accuracy mobile location technology - up to 100 metres on GSM networks, with even greater accuracy predicted on 3G networks. CPS has conducted successful trials of the Cursor(TM) system in the UK, North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , Asia Pacific and Europe.
