(AMEX AMEX See: American Stock Exchange :CBJ) Cambior Inc. is pleased to announce the results of a first-phase diamond drilling Diamond Drilling is a highly specialized industry used for mineral exploration around the world. Most commonly using wireline and core bits with diamond encrusted matrix. To drill holes to max depths of twelve thousand feet, for the recovery of core used in verifying mineral program on its Lapa project, located in Cadillac township in the Abitibi region of Quebec. The Lapa property, currently 100 %-owned by Breakwater breakwater, offshore structure to protect a harbor from wave energy or deflect currents. When it also serves as a pier, it is called a quay; when covered by a roadway it is called a mole. Resources, consists of a mining concession and 42 contiguous claims covering a total of 830 hectares. Cambior holds an option to acquire a 51 % interest in the project after spending Cdn $5 million in exploration expenditures and making cash payments totalling Cdn $500,000 over a 5-year period. The agreement also grants Cambior the right to increase its interest to 70 %. Cambior is currently in its first year of the option agreement. The objective of the drilling program was to test the depth extension of Zone &uot;A&uot;, which was previously explored by Breakwater and its predecessors. Four holes were completed by the end of December 1999, and each of these holes cut Zone &uot;A&uot;, but with sub-economic results. However, three of the holes intersected a new zone of gold mineralization Mineralization The process by which the body uses minerals to build bone structure. Mentioned in: Rickets mineralization, n the bioprecipitation of an inorganic substance. , the Contact Zone, located 50 metres north of Zone &uot;A&uot;. Highlights of the drilling program are listed below and a summary of the results from the four holes can be found in Table 1, attached.

GEOLOGICAL SETTING AND PREVIOUS WORK The Lapa property is located on Highway 117, halfway between Val-d'Or and Rouyn Noranda. The property covers a 2 km section of the Cadillac Fault within the Abitibi greenstone belt The Abitibi greenstone belt is a 2,800-2,600 million year old greenstone belt that spans across the Ontario-Quebec border in Canada. It is mostly made of volcanic rocks, but also includes ultramafic rocks, mafic intrusions, granitoid rocks, and early and middle Precambrian . The rocks of the Cadillac Fault, known as the Piche Group, form a sub-vertical sequence of 150 to 400 metres in thickness comprised of chlorite chlorite Widespread group of layer silicate minerals composed of hydrous aluminum silicates, usually of magnesium and iron. The name, from the Greek for “green,” refers to chlorite's typical colour. , talc and biotite biotite (bī`ətīt'), iron-rich variety of phlogopite, most abdunant of the mica minerals. biotite or black mica Silicate mineral in the common mica group. schists that are locally cut by felsic fel·sic adj. Containing a group of light-colored silicate minerals that occur in igneous rocks. [fel(dspar) + s(ilica) + -ic. dykes. This sequence is bordered by the Cadillac Group sediments to the north and the Pontiac Group sediments to the south. From 1977 to 1990, Breakwater and its predecessors defined several new gold-bearing zones to the west of the old Lapa-Cadillac (or Zulapa) mine, which operated from 1937 to 1942. The Tonawanda decline was excavated to evaluate these new zones, including Zone &uot;A&uot;, the most important and continuous of these gold-bearing structures. Most of the gold mineralization of interest occurs within the Piche Group schist schist (shĭst), metamorphic rock having a foliated, or plated, structure called schistosity in which the component flaky minerals are visible to the naked eye. and consists of quartz-sulphide veins and veinlets enclosed en·close also in·close tr.v. en·closed, en·clos·ing, en·clos·es 1. It tarnishes easily and is somewhat magnetic. ). Zone &uot;A&uot; is hosted by a biotite schist that forms a zone tens of metres in thickness grading between 0.5 to 3 g Au/t. DETAILED RESULTS OF DRILLING PROGRAM The four-hole 2,926-metre core drilling program was funded in part by the Deep Drilling in the Abitibi Sub-Province Program of the &uot;Ministere des Ressources Naturelles du Quebec&uot;. The first two holes tested the depth extension of Zone &uot;A&uot;, east of the Tonawanda decline. Two additional holes were then drilled following the discovery of the Contact Zone in hole LA99-02. The grades returned from Zone &uot;A&uot; in the four holes are on the order of 1 g Au/t, with the exception of hole 99-04 which returned 3.3 g Au/t over 9.1 metres. The newly discovered Contact Zone straddles the northern contact of the Piche Group along the northern limit of the Cadillac Fault. The Contact Zone was penetrated by holes LA-99-02, LA-99-03 and LA-99-04, which were spaced approximately 120 metres apart and cut the zone at an average depth of 600 metres. The mineralization intersected by these holes consists of quartz-sulfide veins and veinlets that cut a wide zone of weak silicification si·lic·i·fy v. si·lic·i·fied, si·lic·i·fy·ing, si·lic·i·fies v.tr. To convert into or impregnate with silica. v.intr. To become converted into or impregnated with silica. with small quantities of disseminated arsenopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Higher grades generally correspond to the thicker veins (less than 1 metre thick). The Contact Zone lies within a larger envelope of highly anomalous gold values with some thin, higher-grade intersections. The mineralization discovered in the Contact Zone is open to the east, at depth, and to some extent along its upper and western extensions. The core was split in half and individual sample lengths varied from 0.5 to 1.5 metres. All assaying was done by Techni-Lab or Intertek Testing Services in Abitibi. The samples were analysed by fire assay with an atomic absorption or gravimetric gravimetric /grav·i·met·ric/ (grav?i-me´trik) pertaining to measurement by weight; performed by weight, as a gravimetric method of drug assay. grav·i·met·ric adj. 1. finish. The coarse rejects of any sample assaying over 1 g Au/t were re-assayed and the results were checked by the other laboratory. Assay results in excess of 34 g Au/t were cut to 34 g Au/t and the cut assays were then used to calculate the weighted average results reported herein, unless otherwise noted.
