New Chief Financial Officer

Cambior Inc. announces the appointment of Bryan A. Coates, 43 years old, as Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Coates was Vice President, Finance and Administration at Compania Minera Antamina S.A. where he participated in the development of one of the world's largest base metals mine. He has more than 15 years experience in the mining industry, including 5 years with Cambior from 1991 to 1996.

Mr. Coates received an Honors Bachelor of Commerce The Bachelor of Commerce is a bachelor's degree in business management, accounting and economic fields. The degree is also known as the Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA).  degree from Laurentian University Laurentian University, main campus at Sudbury, Ont., Canada; bilingual, coeducational; founded 1960. Among its faculties are those in astronomy, commerce, computer science, education, engineering, law, mathematics, music, native studies, nursing, physics, and social  in Sudbury, Ontario and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

New Vice President Industrial Engineering and Environment

Cambior also announces the appointment of Serge Vezina, 58 years old, as Vice President, Industrial Engineering and Environment. Mr. Vezina joined the Company in 1988, and for the last several years has been responsible for improving and adapting the Company's environmental management system to bring it up to the ISO (1) See ISO speed.

In the newly-created position, Mr. Vezina will first identify and study proven industrial techniques and methods at other mining and industrial companies, then train and coordinate personnel at the Company's operations in their use and application. Mr. Vezina's prior experiences include employment with QIT-Fer et Titane inc. in various progressive positions and with Laval University Laval University, at Quebec, Que., Canada; Roman Catholic, coeducational, French language; chartered 1852, an outgrowth of a seminary established 1663 by Bishop Laval. In 1876 a branch was established in Montreal, which in 1919 became independent as the Univ.  as Professor of Mining and Mineral Processing. He holds a Ph.D. in Metallurgy and a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from Laval University. He is Chairman of the Board of COREM (a mineral research consortium) and is also involved in various technical, governmental and university committees. He is a member of the Quebec Order of Engineers and the Society of Mining Engineers of AIME, and is also a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
