Cambio Networks Adds Variable Bandwidth and Switched Network Support to its Industry-leading WAN Management Application; Introduction of COMMAND 2.3 Adds Significant WAN Enhancements.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1996--Cambio Networks, Inc., (formerly ISICAD, Inc.), the leading provider of LAN and WAN infrastructure management solutions, today announced the release of COMMAND 2.3 which dramatically improves users' ability to design, document, and track wide-area network equipment and circuits.

Cambio Networks is the only network infrastructure management vendor to provide a wide-area network management application. This application provides the capability to manage heterogeneous equipment and circuits in the WAN, regardless of equipment vendor or circuit provider/carrier.

COMMAND 2.3 adds to this industry-leading capability with support for variable bandwidth and switched networks. These unique features allow customers to model WAN backbone transport circuits ranging from simple, low-speed, dial-up connections to high-speed, ATM switched networks. Location, cost, and bandwidth allocation can all be tracked by the system offering users the ability to troubleshoot wide-area network problems more quickly.

"Today users are relying on data from several disparate sources, including individual equipment vendors' management systems and paper-based drawings to pinpoint wide-area- network problems. Connectivity, location, and maintenance information for heterogeneous equipment and carriers that make up each circuit are instantly accessible from COMMAND 2.3. A COMMAND 2.3 user need only highlight a single element in a circuit to receive a graphical view of the entire end-to-end circuit trace, with associated equipment and carrier information tables.

"We spend millions of dollars each year on circuits and WAN services. We have the need to manage and compare these costs to our vendor bills. The company's WAN documentation effort consists of tracking over 1,000 backbone circuits and 22,000 user circuits with 40,000 ports. "The WAN capabilities of COMMAND 2.3 should allow us to more easily and accurately document and track all of our WAN circuits and managed services, regardless of who the provider is or what equipment we interconnect," Kurth added.

Variable Bandwidth Support

With COMMAND 2.3, users can divide WAN circuits into partitions that map to the amount of bandwidth they wish to allocate to each WAN service or application. For example, a user might partition a DS-3 circuit into a Frame Relay and an SNA backbone, each containing several T1 lines. COMMAND 2.3 supports any size bandwidth partition from DS-0 to OC-48 and beyond.

Switched Network Support

COMMAND 2.3 enables designing and tracking of switched virtual circuits (SVCs), allowing users to model newer, high speed networking infrastructures. In addition, this release adds point-of-presence (POP) management with the ability to track logical connections to the cloud and to map those connections to physical ports on a device. Within the cloud, users have the ability to model devices and circuits or to turn that function over to their managed service provider. The amount of information that can be tracked by the COMMAND system is virtually unlimited. Examples of information that users may want to track for the point-of-presence include address, speed, interface type, contact, maintenance provider, phone number, etc. Within the cloud users may track carrier, maintenance provider, contract, etc.
