As part of their iForce partnership, Cambex and Sun will deliver mainframe rehosting solutions and services on SPARC (Scalable Performance ARChitecture) A family of RISC CPUs from Sun that runs mostly under Sun's Solaris, but also under Linux and BSD operating systems. After development began in the mid-1980s by David Patterson of the University of California at Berkeley and Bill (R)-based Sun Fire(TM) servers to enterprise customers.

Current mainframe users are locked into proprietary computing environments where annual staffing, hardware and software costs significantly exceed those of open systems data centers. Migrating mainframe applications to Sun open systems servers has reduced annual hardware and software costs by as much as 75 percent. Typical return on investment is less than 24 months while customers benefit from greater flexibility, scalability and often performance.

Cambex and Sun possess the experience, software tools and expertise to migrate business-critical applications from mainframes onto the Sun Fire server line. With rehosting, the front-end of the applications are unchanged allowing customers to use their software without requiring any additional training.

"Cambex has over 35 years of experience working with enterprise mainframe customers" said Joseph F. Kruy, Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Cambex. "We are confident that by working with an industry leader like Sun, we can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership of running a customer's business-critical applications by migrating these applications from IBM mainframes to highly-reliable Sun servers."

Sun's iForce Initiative brings together Sun and its best of breed partners worldwide to deliver proven solutions that reduce cost and time to market. The iForce Initiative addresses customers' business objectives by helping to reduce risk and speed time to implementation of solutions that help lower total cost of ownership and increase the productivity of an organization's assets.
