Cambar and IBM Team to Speed Customers' Supply Chains.

CHARLESTON, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 1999--Cambar Software, Inc., a developer of applications for managing distribution and warehouse operations, announced a significant leap in application performance following tests on the new IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  RS/6000 H70 server. The results give Cambar customers the engine power to address the e-business needs emerging in organizations along the supply chain.

As a member of IBM's Solution Developer Program, Cambar tested its software at IBM's Solution Partnership Center in San Mateo San Mateo (săn mətā`ō), city (1990 pop. 85,486), San Mateo co., W Calif., on San Francisco Bay; inc. 1894. It is a commercial and retail center with some high-technology manufacturing. San Mateo, Spanish for St. , Calif. Cambar exceeded its target rates for CONTROL II by more than 150 percent. For example, on the H70, running AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families.  version 4.3, IBM DB2 Universal Database version 5.2, and CONTROL II Order Management system version 2.2, a test group of 100,000 order lines was processed in less than 75 percent of the elapsed time e·lapsed time

"The performance of IBM's RS/6000 H70 exceeded our most optimistic expectations," said Carl W. Cole, vice president, technical services, Cambar Software. "The H70 clearly demonstrates that the RS/6000 product line offers a high performance solution for companies conducting business on the Internet."

Cambar's CONTROL II is scalable for implementation on a PC through a mid-sized environment, and up to the more data-intensive, high-volume mainframe environments. The application itself runs on IBM RS/6000, as well as IBM Netfinity and S/390 servers, making it a scalable solution for e-businesses of any size.

CONTROL II allows customers and salespeople to order, and check the status of existing orders, over the Internet, 24 hours-a-day. This meets the flexibility required in high-volume, order management and customer service environments.

"With the introduction of the RS/6000 H70, IBM demonstrates its commitment to delivering powerful servers for e-business at an affordable price," said Mike Maas, manager, enterprise server product marketing, IBM RS/6000. "Together, Cambar and IBM are helping businesses large and small use the Internet to get the right products to the right customers, faster and cheaper than ever before."

Cambar customers' supply chain processing capabilities will give them a serious advantage over their competition.

The H70 was equipped with a 7133 Advanced SSA (Serial Storage Architecture) A fault tolerant peripheral interface from IBM that transfers data at 80 and 160 Mbytes/sec. SSA uses SCSI commands, allowing existing software to drive SSA peripherals, which are typically disk drives.  Disk Subsystem attached to the H70 in order to maximize the ability to exploit the processor's capability.

application on a high-performance multiprocessor, such as the H70, should give serious consideration to an SSA disk subsystem," said Cole. "This minimizes I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.
