Calypso Healthcare Solutions Names Vice President.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. -- Calypso Healthcare Solutions, a provider of claims accuracy services for payers of health benefits, has announced the appointment of Brian D. Vervynck as vice president of sales and marketing. Vervynck formerly served as VP of sales at Specialty Disease Management, a Florida-based company that helps patients manage chronic disease and improve health outcomes.

Vervynck will provide leadership for the firm's sales interaction with health payers. Calypso incorporated in 2000 and since then the firm has recovered more than $250 million for its clients.

"I am very pleased to join the Calypso team," Vervynck said. "The services we offer bring significant financial value to health care payers. We will focus over the coming months on the third-party administrators (TPA) market as we believe TPAs are looking for new and creative ways to bring value-added services to their clients."

Calypso helps payers reduce medical expenses through a "forensic" approach to claims overpayment, discovery, recovery and prevention. The firm's auditors and recovery specialists use powerful, proprietary technology to audit suspect claims, recover overpayments and help payers find and solve the root causes of overpayment. In addition, Calypso provides subrogation, hospital bill audit and chart review and credit balance services.

Finding and recovering payments is only the first step. Calypso provides clients with tools and information needed to identify and change processes to prevent future overpayments. Calypso's discovery and recovery efforts typically net between 1 and 3 percent of paid claims, even for organizations that have in-house investigation and recovery teams.

Vervynck brings more than 30 years of healthcare experience to his new position at Calypso. He previously served at the vice president level for a variety of concerns including American Health Holding, a national medical management firm; NaviMedix, a health care software company; and McKesson -- Access Health Group, a provider of clinically based care management solutions. Vervynck has also held senior management positions at established health care organizations including TOKOS Medical Corporation and IVAC Corporation as well as start-up companies such as Paradigm Health Corporation and Health InterLink Solutions.

Vervynck attended the University of Washington and holds two bachelor's degrees from Western Washington University. He completed the executive graduate programs at the University of California at Los Angeles. Vervynck also served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army infantry in Vietnam from 1969 to 1973.
