Calvert Appoints Dr. Julie Gorte as Vice President, Chief Social Investment Strategist.BETHESDA, Md. -- Calvert, the nations' largest family of socially responsible mutual funds, announced the appointment of Dr. Julie Gorte to the position of Vice President, Chief Social Investment Strategist. The creation of this new role at Calvert reflects the growing interest in social investing social investing Limiting one's investment alternatives to securities of firms whose products or actions are considered socially acceptable. For example, an investment manager might decide to eliminate from consideration the securities of all firms engaged among investor audiences, most notably the institutional investor marketplace. In this newly created role, Dr. Gorte will provide analysis and commentary on emerging issues in social investing and the intersection of social and financial research. Dr. Gorte will report to Calvert's Chief Investment Officer of Equities, Steve Falci. "I look forward to working with Dr. Gorte and leveraging her vast experience in social research and analytical skills to articulate the investment implications of social, environmental and corporate governance factors," said Mr. Falci. "It is my belief that Calvert can further develop and advance the field of social investing by continuing to develop innovative approaches that integrate financial and social metrics," he added. Dr. Gorte was previously Director of the Calvert Social Research Department, where she managed Calvert's team of expert analysts charged with evaluating corporate performance on social and environmental issues and shareholder advocacy for Calvert's socially screened mutual funds. Calvert will commence a search immediately for a Senior Vice President of Social Research and Policy. Before she joined Calvert in 2000, Dr. Gorte served in several public policy and nonprofit positions dealing with science and technology policy, environmental policy, industrial competitiveness, and workplace policy. These positions include serving as senior policy analyst for the Northeast-Midwest Institute, Program Manager for Technology Analysis at the Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Policies and Programs Division, Vice President for Ecological and Economics Research at The Wilderness Society, and nearly 14 years' service at the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment.
