Caltrans Tells Teens Time is Running out to Enter to Win a New Car, Year of Insurance.

SACRAMENTO Sacramento, city, United States
Sacramento (săkrəmĕn`tō), city (1990 pop. 369,365), state capital and seat of Sacramento co., central Calif.
, Calif. -- One of the rights of passage as a young person is getting that first car. The California Department of Transportation The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is a government agency in the U.S. state of California. Its mission is to improve mobility across the state. It manages the state highway system and is actively involved with public transportation systems in California.  (Caltrans) is making that passage a lot easier for one lucky California high school California High School (commonly referred to as Cal High) is a public school located in San Ramon, California, a suburb of San Francisco, Oakland, and Silicon Valley. Its mascot is a Grizzly Bear. The school's newspaper is The Californian which is published monthly.  student.

"Through a fun, educational on-line contest that stresses the importance of reducing vehicle speed in a highway work zone, students from across the state have the opportunity to win a brand new Toyota Toyota (toi-ō`tə, Jap. tōyō`tä), city (1990 pop. 332,336), Aichi prefecture, central Honshu, Japan. , but time is running out to enter the contest," said Caltrans Director Will Kempton.

The teen-focused contest was introduced on the department-sponsored website, www.slowfortheconezone.com in December, 2005. However, time is quickly running out for entrants, as a drawing for the car will be held this month. The contest is part of the broader "Slow for the Cone Zone" public education campaign that Caltrans introduced in 1999.

"Because studies show that teenaged drivers are at highest risk of being involved in fatal collisions, I am urging every driver education teacher and private driving instructor driving instructor ninstructor(a) m/f de autoescuela

to tell their students about this contest," he said.

In addition to the Scion, the winner will also receive upgraded tires and rims and car insurance for a year. To qualify for the car, students watch a short educational video that offers tips on how to drive safely in a cone zone, such as slowing down, being aware of surroundings and other cars, putting down the cell phone, and turning down the radio. Students then answer 13 questions and are automatically entered in the contest.

The Slow for the Cone Zone campaign was developed in response to rising injury and death rates statewide from vehicles crashing into each other or road barriers. Since its inception, the number of collisions, injuries and deaths involving motorists in California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  highway work zones has dropped dramatically, while continuing to rise nationally.

"It's important for our new generation of drivers to learn the rules of the road, and this video makes the educational process more appealing to teens," said Kempton.
