In managing Calpine's fuels program, Barnds is responsible for the acquisition and management of proven natural reserves, as well as purchasing short and long-term natural gas supplies for the Company's gas-fired plants, including 881 megawatts (mw) in operation, 195 mw in near-term acquisitions, 240 mw under construction and 480 mw under development. Barnds brings to Calpine nearly 20 years of fuel management and procurement experience. Most recently, he was responsible for gas supply and pipeline services for Washington Natural Gas Company, a Seattle-based local distribution company. In addition, he directed the development of a diversified portfolio of roughly 100 billion cubic feet (bcf) per year of natural gas throughout the Western U.S. and the sale of approximately 75 bcf per year through various wholesale arrangements. He also held management positions with Phillips Petroleum, Petro Lewis and Berry Petroleum.
