), the nation's leading independent power company, today announced it has established a new business unit, Calpine c-Power, to serve the rapidly growing worldwide demand for highly reliable critical power. Highly reliable power adds to Calpine's growing line of high-value energy products, which include green power, ancillary services and peaking power.

The Internet, data and telecommunications industries are currently spending hundreds of millions of dollars to install redundant power systems to back up the power grid. Calpine c-Power's product is highly reliable, high-quality electricity back-up that will allow data center and telecommunications developers to substantially decrease capital and operating costs operating costs nplgastos mpl operacionales  for electrical and air conditioning air conditioning, mechanical process for controlling the humidity, temperature, cleanliness, and circulation of air in buildings and rooms. Indoor air is conditioned and regulated to maintain the temperature-humidity ratio that is most comfortable and healthful.  infrastructure. Calpine's distributed generating systems will enable customers to increase their revenue floor space and allow them to focus on maximizing the sale of broad band connectivity. Reliabilities far exceeding the reliability of utility grids will be offered.

"Highly reliable and clean power is one of the great electricity business opportunities of the new millennium," stated Bob Hepple, president of Calpine c-Power. "Calpine's goal is to increase stockholder value by capturing a share of this investment in new technologies to move, condition, store and distribute electrons to power the exponential growth Extremely fast growth. On a chart, the line curves up rather than being straight. Contrast with linear.  of the Internet economy The Internet Economy refers to conducting business through markets whose infrastructure is based on the Internet and World-Wide Web. An Internet economy differs from a traditional economy in a number of ways, including: communication, market segmentation, distribution costs, and price. ." Hepple added, "We will offer -- and guarantee -- reliabilities up to 99.9999 percent."

Commenting on Calpine's new energy product Mark P. Mills, co-editor of Digital Power Report and president of Mills-McCarthy & Associates, states, "My colleague (Peter Huber) and I anticipated the development of new power products emerging as a response to the expanding and unique power appetite of the new world of fiber optic communications. We are not surprised to see one of the early players in this new field launch from outside the traditional electric utility world. Appropriately enough, Calpine c-Power is headquartered in Silicon Valley -- home to the driving force of electron demand in the 21st century."

The new information technology age is already having a visible impact on overall power demand. According to Mills, "At least 100 million nodes on the Internet, drawing from hundreds to thousands of kilowatt-hours per year, add up to 290 billion kilowatt-hours of demand today. That's about eight percent of total U.S. demand. Add in the electric power used to build and operate stand-alone (unnetworked) chips and computers, and the total jumps to about 13 percent. It's now reasonable to project that half of the electric grid will be powering the digital-Internet economy within the next decade."
