In power systems, use of steam for both power generation and heating. High-temperature, high-pressure steam from a boiler and superheater first passes through a turbine to produce power.

The facility has been in operation since 1988. Electricity is sold to Pacific Gas & Electric Co. under the terms of a long term power sales agreement and steam is sold to the Gilroy Foods Inc. facility located adjacent to the power plant.
