Haviland, 48, brings more than two decades of energy experience to his post. Prior to joining Calpine, Haviland held various engineering, business development, project management and senior management positions with Bechtel in the fossil power business. His most recent positions included serving as principal vice president and president of the Fossil Power Group Industry Unit and as general manager responsible for fossil power activities in North America. He has been involved in the independent energy business since its inception and brings a portfolio of skills critical to implementing Calpine's business plans and a deep understanding of the marketplace.

Haviland holds a Master of Science, Civil Engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Massachusetts Institute of Technology, at Cambridge; coeducational; chartered 1861, opened 1865 in Boston, moved 1916.
