The Pasadena Power Plant, a 240 megawatt, natural gas-fired facility, will be built on the Houston Ship Channel The Houston Ship Channel in Houston, Texas is part of the Port of Houston—one of the United States's busiest sea ports. The $150 million power plant will provide 90 mw of electricity, and 200,000 lbs of steam (equivalent to approximately 20 mw of electricity) to the Phillips Petroleum Houston Chemical Complex, the remaining capacity will be sold in the Texas market. This state-of-the-art power plant will be 30% more efficient than competing gas-fired power plants in the state. To commemorate the start of construction, Calpine will host a groundbreaking ceremony at the plant site on Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. The plant site is located at 955 Phillips Road, adjacent to the Phillips Houston Chemical Complex in Pasadena.
