Staff from British Waterways will also be helping the clean up between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, providing skips, work boats and tea or coffee for volunteers throughout the weekend.

"This is the 12th year running we've organised this event," said an IWA spokesman.

"Bikes, prams, toilets, tyres, counterfeit coins, old cars, and even a coffin have been pulled from canals on previous clean-ups in recent years."

He urged volunteers to wear old clothes, waterproofs and protective footwear or wellies. All children must be supervised by an adult.

All volunteers should park at the British Waterways Yard in Bayleys Lane, Ocker Hill, Tipton.
