Calling out for blood donors.


BLOOD donors are wanted across the region.

As winter colds and flu affect increasing numbers of people, the National Blood Service is asking people to give blood in the New Year.

Over the past two weeks, more than 6,000 fewer donors have been giving blood across the country than this time last year, causing blood stocks to dip significantly.

South Tyneside South Tyneside is a metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear in North East England.

It is bordered by four other boroughs - Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead to the west, Sunderland in the south, and North Tyneside to the north.

 relations manager for the North East England North-East England is one of the nine official regions of England and comprises the combined area of Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear and a small part of North Yorkshire. , said: "It is vital that we collect enough blood to meet hospital demand.

"However, with the viruses affecting some people at the moment, we are finding that less people are coming along to donate blood. We are asking everyone to take the time to come and give blood."
