Calling France.Virgin Mobile and Carphone Warehouse today confirmed they were in talks over the launch of a mobile phone service in France. The joint venture would see Virgin phones sold in Carphone's outlets in France as well as in Virgin Megastores Virgin Megastores is an international chain of record shops, founded by Sir Richard Branson on London's Oxford Street in January or February 1971 (exact date uncertain). In 1979 the company opened their first Megastore at the end of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. . The service will operate under the Virgin Mobile brand and use the Orange network. It is likely that the two companies will invest a total of about pounds 50m over three years. The deal will inject competition into the French market which is dominated by three players - Orange, Bouygues Telecom and the Vivendi and Vodafone-owned SFR SFR Swiss Franc (national currency) SFR Société Française du Radiotéléphone (French cellular provider) SFR Single Family Residence SFR Single Family Residence (real estate) network. |
