AN ACCOUNTANCY body has said it will oppose any moves to divert transport investment in Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff.  from east-west corridors to north-south for political reasons.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales sets out its case in a submission to the Welsh Assembly Government The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) (Welsh: Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, LlCC) was firstly an executive body of the National Assembly for Wales, consisting of the First Minister and his Cabinet from 1999 to 2007.  consultation on its national transport plan.

David Lermon, Wales director of the ICAEW ICAEW Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales , said: "In general terms, the draft plan sensibly focuses on east-west links: these are, of course, of the greatest significance for the economy.

"It does not make the case for any major diversion of resources to promoting north-south links.

"We strongly believe that where reasonably effective transport corridors exist, even where these go through England, such as the Marches railway line or to a lesser extent the A49/A5/A483 link, it is folly to look to create alternatives as an expression of national machismo machismo
