SOUTH African president Thabo Mbeki Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki (born June 18 1942) is the current President of the Republic of South Africa.<ref name="gcis-profile2004" /> Early years
Born and raised in what is now the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, Mbeki is the son of Govan Mbeki (1910
 yesterday called for more equality between rich and poor as he opened the Earth Summit in Johannesburg.

He said the "savage principle of the survival of the fittest" had to end.

And he added: "A global human society based on poverty for many and prosperity for a few, characterised by islands of wealth, surrounded sur·round
