Call for volunteers.The Chiapas Project (http://www.chiapasproject.org) is a volunteer group that travels twice each year to rural Chiapas, Mexico, to provide free medical and dental care to the indigenous Zoque people of the region, it is a nonsectarian, New Jersey nonprofit corporation nonprofit corporation n. an organization incorporated under state laws and approved by both the state's Secretary of State and its taxing authority as operating for educational, charitable, social, religious, civic or humanitarian purposes. and reports that it has received IRS An abbreviation for the Internal Revenue Service, a federal agency charged with the responsibility of administering and enforcing internal revenue laws. designation as a tax-exempt publicly funded foundation. The group began three years ago as one family's effort to be of service and has grown into trips of 30+ practitioners. Volunteer dentists on its last trip were from New Jersey, Virginia, Hawaii, and London, U.K. On the dental side, it started doing only extractions, but now has set up a six-chair clinic that performs extractions and restorations, and applies sealant. Chiapas says that it is now ready to begin application of fluoride varnishes in the main town it serves as well as in the surrounding pueblos. They wish to teach local people how to apply the varnishes. The program is in need of more trained volunteers for its August 2004 trip and asks that the ADAA ADAA Anxiety Disorders Association of America ADAA American Dental Assistants Association ADAA Art Dealers Association of America (since 1962; New York City, NY, USA) ADAA Aberdeen and District Angling Association help spread the word of its work to members.
