Call for Participants: Type II Diabetes Research Subjects Needed; Northern Illinois University Recruits Volunteers to Complete Study.

DEKALB, Ill. -- Northern Illinois For the university, see Northern Illinois University

Northern Illinois is a region generally covering the northern third of the U.S. state of Illinois. Economics
research fellow Theresa M. Schultz, R.D., L.D.N., announced today a call for research subjects in her current type II diabetes Type II diabetes
Type II diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and usually appears in middle aged adults. It is often associated with obesity and may be delayed or controlled with diet and exercise.

, is believed to have an active role in balancing insulin production with glucose uptake. Imbalances, often severe, are a result of adult-onset or type II diabetes.

"Lipoic supplements have been studied and prescribed in Europe for over 20 years, but little has been done in the United States," said Ms. Schultz. "In our study we hope to recruit people actively suffering from type II diabetes and monitor their A1C A1C

Glucorell, Inc., a Florida-based natural supplement manufacturer, will provide the same material used for use in the trial that is used in Insulow. Created specifically for diabetics and those at risk of diabetes, Insulow addresses the root cause of diabetes - insulin resistance Insulin Resistance Definition

Insulin resistance is not a disease as such but rather a state or condition in which a person's body tissues have a lowered level of response to insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas that helps to regulate the level

In these European trials, many patients experienced significant improvements in balancing blood sugar levels, often to the point of eliminating the need for other diabetes medications.

Subject Criteria

Volunteers for the study must be type II diabetics age 21 to 65 years of age, non-smokers in otherwise good health. They must be willing to participate in a double-blind test of dietary supplement medication or placebo. Participants will not be required to nor are they encouraged to abandon their current diabetic medication and dietary regime. For further information on participation, volunteers should call 630-365-2814 or email Tschultz@niu.edu.
