Call for Action EoACAo Accompaniment of Farmers from Deir Istiya to Wadi Qana in N West Bank's Salfit.Will take place as long as no rain pours on Thursday and Friday Date: Friday 24th April 2009 Time: 8 amPlace: Deir Istiya centre IWPS IWPS Institute of War and Peace Studies is calling for peace activists to accompany farmers from Deir Istiya to their fields in Wadi Qana. The road leading to their fields passes from the illegal Israeli settlement of Yaqir. In Wadi Qana the farmers will be preparing the ground to plant olive trees which will be partly funded by PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated, Palo Alto, CA, www.parc.com) Founded in 1970, PARC is a Xerox subsidiary involved in high-tech research and development. Although Xerox's headquarters are in Stamford, Connecticut, and manufacturing and marketing are in Rochester, New York, PARC is the Palestinian Agricultural Council. The farmers have last attempted to reach their fields on the 20th March 2009 where they were denied access by settlers, army and police.In all the farmers own 7000 dunams A Dunam' is a unit of area used during the Ottoman Empire. It is equivalent to forty paces in length and breadth, viz. 1000 m². This unit of measurement used in various countries has/had slight differences. of fertile ground in Wadi Qana where olive and almond trees as well as wheat grow. These crops belong to several families who in all number more than 200 people.
