"While the contact centre will service Amicus Digital the clear definition will help us concentrate on a number of exciting developments that will create jobs not only in South Tyneside South Tyneside is a metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear in North East England.

 but across the UK.

"We think it is very important to continue to develop our business to secure the long-term future of the Amicus brand. Diversification is essential in a market place where business trends are ever-changing."

Amicus Outsourcing opened its contact centre and fulfilment service in 2003 in Jarrow, handling calls and queries on behalf of clients including utility companies, catalogue firms and financial houses.

As the company developed, new opportunities arose that it was keen to exploit.

Mr Thompson said: "The contact centre operation established itself very quickly and we now employ more than 100 people at our centre in Jarrow.

"As we handled more fulfilment work for clients we saw a number of opportunities to diversify and in doing so safeguard the long-term future of the business and increase the profitability of the company.

"It became clear that the new opportunities would be web-based and that it would make sound business sense to launch a new arm to our operation to concentrate building this area in the future."

Moving the new part of the business to The Quadrus Centre enabled the company to stay within the borough of South Tyneside, something important to Jarrow-born Mr Thompson.

He said: "Launching a new hi-tech operation needed a hi-tech environment which is what we have here at Quadrus.

"But also we wanted to keep all arms of the business within the borough as we are proud to be a South Tyneside company."
