Call Sciences Introduces New Architecture For Complex Call Management Applications.

EDISON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1997--

Release 6.0 is Faster and More Reliable Than Competition

CALL SCIENCES(TM), a leading international provider of call management applications and value-added communications services, announced today a major upgrade of its best-of-breed system architecture for its Enhanced Services Enhanced service is service offered over commercial carrier transmission facilities used in interstate communications, that employs computer processing applications that act on the format, content, code, protocol, or similar aspects of the subscriber's transmitted information;  Platform, for communication and message delivery over global intelligent networks.

The 6.0 release is faster, more scalable, and capable of handling three times the number of calls. New features also include the capability to seamlessly interface with customers' existing legacy systems for voice messaging Using voice mail as an alternative to electronic mail, in which voice messages are intentionally recorded, not because the recipient was not available. , which preserve the customers' existing investment in hardware and software.

Warren Gifford, Ph.D., Call Sciences' vice president of research said, "This new 6.0 architecture has the technical capability to redefine the role of call management in today's corporate marketplace. Our Enhanced Services Platform is now the most sophisticated, economical, efficient and reliable method of cross-medium messaging versus any other call management provider. Software Is Faster and More Robust

The new 6.0 architecture's software is designed in a modular, scalable manner so that functional components can be easily added and integrated at any time. For example, the programming separates signaling from its call processing In telecommunication, the term call processing has the following meanings:
  1. The sequence of operations performed by a switching system from the acceptance of an incoming call through the final disposition of the call.
, database and billing applications, enabling the architecture to support a variety of signaling protocols (ISDN ISDN

, SS7 and virtually all European signaling protocols) in a flexible, reliable manner.

This scalable design maintains the signaling subsystem in one small module. The module can be conveniently and economically changed, enabling the architecture to be implemented worldwide using a variety of industry signaling protocols.

Internationally, Call Sciences' new 6.0 platform easily handles numerous foreign languages without any software changes to the application. "We are currently running the product in English, Spanish and Danish and have the capability to produce a product in any native language from end to end," Dr. Gifford said. "Our system enables users to communicate via voice or fax messages in their native language. And our Customer Service is also unrestricted by geography, providing a First Tier of support in the native tongue to minimize language barriers."

Internet Capability

Call Sciences' 6.0 platform integrates the latest technology to bring communications to the Internet. This capability, called Online Manager, makes message management and call routing profile management capabilities possible via the Internet. This enables Personal Assistant(R) users, (Call Sciences' flagship personal number solution), to have an integrated mailbox A simulated mailbox in the computer that holds e-mail messages. Mailboxes are stored on disk as a file of messages, a database of messages or as an individual file for each message. The standard mailboxes are usually In, Out, Trash and Junk (Spam).  with just one graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

"No longer does a customer have to graze between fax machine and e-mail," Dr. Gifford said. "It's all online together in a single distributed graphic interface."

A second component of the platform upgrade is an Internet-based, web-provisioning, user interface. Designed to improve efficiency and productivity, the interface enables the operator's Customer Service personnel to create, change, or remove customer accounts quickly and easily.

Easy Integration with Legacy Systems

The scalable, flexible system architecture allows network service providers to easily complement their existing enhanced services with Call Sciences' suite of enhanced communications services. The 6.0 architecture is uniquely capable of interfacing with existing voice mail systems. This means that network service providers can easily install Call Sciences' Enhanced Services Platform while preserving prior investments in voice mail system hardware and software. The interface is designed to provide a seamless transition from Call Sciences' Enhanced Services Platform to other systems in a transparent manner -- all of the functionality of the legacy systems is incorporated under one umbrella of enhanced communications services. This is a tremendous benefit for users who would like to reap the benefits of Call Sciences' advanced communications services, but still have a need to share messages with department members using alternate systems. With Call Sciences, the upgrade path is feature-rich, but still backwardly compatible.

Security

State-of-the-art firewalls and other security tools enable Call Sciences' Enhanced Services Platform to prevent hackers from penetrating the system, and to offer immediate and reliable disaster recovery. The 6.0 architecture is integrated with Hewlett-Packard OpenView, the industry leader in network management, which facilitates system management of distributed systems Distributed systems (computers)

from a central location. Network service providers can seamlessly manage their Call Sciences Enhanced Services Platform while administering other systems. This central management provides better efficiency, and ultimately, cost savings for network service providers.

Call Sciences Teams with Hewlett-Packard

As a Channel Partner with Hewlett-Packard, Call Sciences has consolidated much of its hardware suppliers for the 6.0 architecture to primarily utilize Hewlett-Packard network and system equipment. Using state-of-the-art Hewlett-Packard computers and Dialogic di·a·log·ic   also di·a·log·i·cal

with increased speed, so the overall responsiveness is better.

Moreover, the homogeneous architecture of 6.0 accommodates users who desire the convenience of a single-vendor platform. With this release, Call Sciences has moved from three hardware vendors to one predominant vendor (Hewlett-Packard), thus consolidating all customer services. Customer service issues are more easily resolved, and the added benefit of Hewlett-Packard's global reach means that on-site customer service is never far away.
