of Caliper's US Patent No. 6,287,774 by Molecular Devices' IMAP IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol  assay products. The suit seeks an injunction injunction, in law, order of a court directing a party to perform a certain act or to refrain from an act or acts. The injunction, which developed as the main remedy in equity, is used especially where money damages would not satisfy a plaintiff's claim, or to  against sales of the infringing products and damages. In its conference call, Molecular Devices stated that the suit lacks merit and will not be material. It also stated IMAP products made up less than 1% of its sales in the first quarter of 2002.

Molecular Devices estimates that IMAP products are expected to account for less than 1% of its sales in 2002. This suit could hurt both companies by draining financial resources for legal fees during a time when both companies face order postponements from their end-user markets.
