Coming to California's coast in January 2003, the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa will offer meetings with striking Pacific views and a relaxing resort atmosphere.

The Hyatt Regency will feature 52,000 square feet of meeting space to expertly serve the needs of business travelers and planners alike. The centerpiece of this space is a 20,000-square-foot ballroom capable of accommodating up to 2,000 people, which is adjoined by a terrace overlooking the water and 15,000 square feet of lawn specifically designed with outdoor events in mind.

Additional facilities will include two oceanside ballrooms of 6,300 and 3,300 square feet, an 11,000-square-foot exhibition space with 16-foot ceilings, and beautifully appointed accommodations sure to satisfy meeting participants. With more than eight miles of stunning sandy coastline, Huntington Beach offers a variety of recreational activities, most notably surfing and sunset walks on its popular pier.

MONTEREY

Robert Louis Stevenson called it "the greatest meeting of land and sea," and Monterey promises planners the greatest meeting ever.

The award-winning Monterey Conference Center features 58,000 square feet of newly renovated meeting space, including an unobstructed 19,600-square-foot ballroom and the unique Steinbeck Forum offering seating for 490. In addition to major meeting spaces are a number of more intimate boardrooms and breakouts, which open to flowering city- and bay-view terraces.

The Monterey Meeting Connection is the formal association of the conference center and three hotels. Double Tree Hotel Monterey, Monterey Marriott, and Hotel Pacific combine for a total of 61,000 square feet of function space, 30,000 square feet of exhibit space, and more than 800 guest rooms and suites.

With rooms, a self-contained convention facility, and adjacent championship golf course, the Hyatt Regency is Monterey's most complete resort. Dominating the city's skyline, the Monterey Marriott just completed a multimillion-dollar renovation to its 341 guest rooms and 8,100-square-foot ballroom. The Monterey Bay Aquarium's exhibit galleries, which provide for partial or complete use of the facility for groups from 30 to 3,000, allow convention-goers to delight in an evening amidst exotic sea life.

OAKLAND

Oakland's booming economy and blossoming cultural landscape make this Bay Area city a popular place to do business. The more than $300 million in new construction this year alone includes five new hotels, bringing Oakland's total number of guest rooms to more than 2,200.

Oakland Marriott City Center and Convention Center is the largest meeting facility in the area, able to host nearly 10,000 for a reception or 6,000 theater-style. The Claremont Resort The Claremont Resort & Spa is a historic hotel that straddles the border between Berkeley and Oakland, California. Looking to lure even larger groups, the center's plans for expansion call for the 190,000-square-foot development to include an additional 60,000 square feet of meeting space, 46,000 square feet of exhibition space, an 18,000-square-foot ballroom, and 43,000 square feet of pre-function space. If approved this spring, construction could begin as early as 2003.

Located across from the conference center is Paseo Colorado, Pasadena's three-block, open-air commercial complex that opened to rave reviews last fall. This patchwork of wonderful shopping and entertainment options features magnificent Mediterranean architecture, lush pedestrian promenades, and a desirable place for meeting participants to get some down time.

Slated for completion in summer 2003, a new 33story, 750-room tower connected to the existing hotel (formerly the Hyatt Regency San Diego) will bring the property's total to 120,000 square feet of meeting space and 1,625 sleeping rooms. The city will also soon be home to a 261-room W Hotel, with 5,500 square feet of elegant meeting space, as well as a 512-room Westin Hotel and Tower with its own banquet and convention wing, set to open in spring 2004.

SAN FRANCISCO

Central to this city's convention landscape is the Moscone Center The Moscone Center is San Francisco, California's largest convention and exhibition complex. The complex consists of two main underground halls underneath Yerba Buena Gardens, Moscone North and Moscone South, as well the three-level Moscone West exhibition hall across 4th Street. , growing again to accommodate the ever-increasing demand for meetings held here.  recently completed a $2.4 billion expansion that includes the addition of a 1-million-square-foot main terminal building, two new international concourses, a light-rail system connecting all terminals, new entrance roadways and parking facilities, a consolidated rental-car center, and a BART station linking the airport to downtown and beyond.

The McEnery Convention Center sits in the center of it all, and offers 143,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, a 22,000-square-foot ballroom, and the superior communication capabilities for which the area is famous.

The Fairmont just opened a new tower with 264 guest rooms and suites, as well as 20,000 square feet of function space. This brings the hotel's current inventory to 805 rooms and 65,000 square feet of space suited for simultaneous meetings. In addition to the Fairmont Tower, construction of the 25-story San Jose Marriott is scheduled for completion in January 2003. The 450,000-square-foot luxury hotel, adjacent to the convention center, will include 17 meeting rooms with outdoor terraces and 506 guest rooms. Fresh from its $21 million makeover, the 512-room Hyatt San Jose near the airport plans to add up to 1,000 rooms, which will make it the largest hotel in the region; a timeline for the project has yet to be established.

For something special, planners should consider the Hayes Mansion The Hayes Mansion is a building in San Jose, California, USA. The building has been referred to as one of the finest examples of late 19th-century architecture in the Santa Clara  Conference Center, a renovated 1905 mansion mixing old-world charm with modern convenience. Later this year, the Hayes will open a new three-story wing with 18,000 square feet of state-of-the-art conference space, including a 6,500-square-foot ballroom and numerous unique conference rooms with the finest flourishes, more than doubling the estate's existing meeting space.
