sound, repeat it three times and you'd be talking about !!!, the Sacramento-based group that claims that it's not a jam band, but a band that jams.

The eight-member dance rock crew came together in the mid-1990s and began recording singles in early 2000. The !!! moniker (1) A name, title or alias. See alias.

is an attempt to reflect the excitement they all shared, plus a collective desire to shake things up.

Before forming !!!, lead singer Nic Offer was a member of Yah Mos, a Sacramento hard-core rock act. In !!!, Offer found a sound that was more danceable and less hard-core.

!!! played all-night dance parties, house parties and nightclubs before releasing a self-titled album. In 2004, the band released its most successful CD to critical acclaim, "Louden Up Now."

Not surprisingly, !!! is one of those bands that dislikes being labeled. It can most safely be described, it seems, as funk-rock with a danceable beat.

Spencer Bohren

Today, Luna

New Orleans bluesman Spencer Bohren brings his guitar and his internationally renowned Cajun and folk-style music to Luna for what is actually a benefit concert for the guitarist.

Bohren, himself a direct victim of Katrina, is in the rebuilding stages - just as is New Orleans.

Born in Wyoming, Bohren moved to Denver in 1968 to follow the folk scene. Eventually, he settled in New Orleans, where he played with countless blues musicians in legendary clubs such as Tipitina's and the Absinthe absinthe (ăb`sĭnth), an emerald-green liqueur distilled from wormwood and other aromatics, including angelica root, sweet-flag root, star anise, and dittany, which have been macerated and steeped in alcohol.  Bar.

Bohren has released CDs on Virgin and Sony records, as well as his own label.

Catch a truly New Orleans sound and directly help out one of many of Katrina's victims at 9 p.m. today at Luna, 30 E. Broad- way. The cover is $10.

3 Leg Torso

Saturday, Luna

Formed in 1996 as a violin, cello and accordion trio, 3 Leg Torso has since added two more members and a new dimension.

The band's sound now is a synthesis of chamber music, tango, klezmer klezmer (klĕz`mər), form of instrumental folk music developed in the Eastern European Jewish community. The style had its beginnings in the Middle Ages; its name is a Yiddishized version of the Hebrew klei zemir , Latin and world music. Joining original members Bela Balogh (violin and trumpet), Courtney Von Drehle (accordion) and percus- sionist/mallet player Gary Irvine are Kyle MacLowry, also on percussion and mallet mallet,

The New Mastersounds

Tuesday, WOW Hall

Promoting its third album, "This Is What We Do," British funk band the New Mastersounds roll into Eugene next week on its first U.S. tour.

An instrumental quartet, the New Mastersounds was founded in 1999 by United Kingdom jazz guitarist Eddie Roberts. The band started off playing gigs in small bars, playing Roberts' original tunes along with the occasional cover in homage to New Orleans funk pioneers, the Meters.

The band eventually caught a break and was able to release its first album, "Deep Funk." With it came international recognition.

The group's second album, "Be Yourself," contained a more toned-down sound than the debut album, morphing into a style that might be described as chill funk.

The band plays at the WOW Hall at 9 p.m. Tuesday. The cover is $7.

Ashleigh Flynn

Thursday, Sam Bond's

Celebrating the release of her third album, Ashleigh Flynn comes to town to share her smoky vocals and insightful songwriting.

Flynn's new release, a live album recorded at Mississippi Studios in Portland, pairs her powerful voice with the high-energy acoustic band Sneakin' Out. The mandolin mandolin (măn'dəlĭn`, măn`dəlĭn'), musical instrument of the lute family, with a half-pear-shaped body, a fretted neck, and a variable number of strings, plucked with the fingers or with a plectrum. , percussion and acoustic bass of Sneakin' Out are along for the ride on Thursday night as the groups perform together at Sam Bond's Garage.

Flynn's CD also features an appearance by folk singer Tracy Grammer.

The show starts at 9 p.m., the sliding-scale cover is $4 to $6. Sam Bond's Garage is at 407 Blair Blvd.

Hackensaw Boys

Thursday, John Henry's

Out of Charlottesville, Va., the Hackensaw Boys bring their joyful blend of old-time and bluegrass bluegrass, any species of the large and widely distributed genus Poa, chiefly range and pasture grasses of economic importance in temperate and cool regions. After humble origins, playing at a small, cramped but cozy diner, the Hackensaw Boys have found their sound and kept it simple. Their following grew rapidly, and they hopped a bus to Successville in 2002 on a regional tour opening for college-rock darlings Cake.

Since then, the band has done two tours with Modest Mouse and played a slew of festivals, including Bonnaroo 2003, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is held annually in Telluride, Colorado by Planet Bluegrass. Although traditionally the festival focuses on bluegrass music, it often features music from a variety of genres.
