) Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Gerald F. Feeney will retire on February 1, 2003, after nearly 27 years of service, the Company announced today.

"Gerry is not only a dedicated and talented CFO See Chief Financial Officer. , he is also a close friend. We appreciate the many significant contributions he has made to Cal Water. I know I speak for everyone at the Company when I wish Gerry much happiness as he embarks on this new phase of his life," said Robert W. Foy, Chairman of the Board.

Feeney began his career at the Company in 1976 as Controller. In 1994 he was promoted to his current position. Prior to joining the Company, he was an audit manager at Peat Marwick, Certified Public Accountants Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

An accountant who has met certain standards, including experience, age, and licensing, and passed exams in a particular state.

"Gerry's accomplishments at Cal Water are simply too long to list. He works incredibly hard and is absolutely committed to doing what is ethical, right and best for the Company. The CEO/CFO relationship is a very close one, and I have been blessed to have had Gerry as CFO during my tenure," said President and Chief Executive Officer Peter C. Nelson.

Feeney chose to retire so that he would have more time to spend with his wife, children and new grandson. "Working for a great company like Cal Water has been a tremendous opportunity that I really appreciate. I will miss seeing friends and colleagues who assisted me so much. However, having time with my wife and family, and having time to enjoy other leisure interests while I am still young, have taken precedent," Feeney said.

The Company will announce Feeney's replacement in the coming weeks.
