California Transportation Commission Allocates New Proposition 1B Investments.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Transportation Commission (CTC CTC - Cornell Theory Center ) has allocated a round of new investments from Proposition 1B, the $19.9 billion transportation bond approved by voters in 2006.

"These projects will relieve traffic congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

congestion - When the offered load of a data communication path exceeds the capacity.
, improve air quality, and more importantly, enable Californians to spend more time with their friends and families instead of being stuck in traffic," stated Caltrans Director Will Kempton.

Proposition 1B projects that received allocations include:

Central Valley - $43 million was allocated to widen three miles of Highway 99 from a four-lane expressway to a six-lane freeway and build a new interchange near Atwater in Merced County. Safety and traffic congestion will be improved by the addition of a lane in each direction and the elimination of four at-grade intersections An at-grade intersection is a junction at which two or more transport axes cross at the same level (or grade). Traffic management
With areas of high or fast traffic, an at-grade intersection normally requires a traffic control device such as a stop sign or traffic light
. Currently, commercial and passenger traffic is confronted with cross traffic and/or slow vehicles entering or exiting the highway via at-grade intersections. These at-grade intersections will be removed. For more information go to this link:
