"This positive momentum is a clear signal that the export of California goods to our foreign trading partners is recovering," said TTCA Secretary Lon S. Hatamiya. "The economic recovery is taking hold, and our exporting businesses are beginning to see even more of the positive impact." Hatamiya said that the continuing increase in January to June figures shows that consumers are beginning to regain confidence after the tragic events of 9/11, and that the recent positive news on California's economy is helping to boost the export picture. Overall, California exports for the first half of this year are down 19.57 percent compared to this time last year, when export sales reached $57.3 billion.
