Business Editors/Education & High-Tech Writers

CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000

University Planet, Inc. announced today that it has licensed its Academic Planning Suite (APS) to California State University, Fullerton California State University, Fullerton, commonly known as CSUF, CSU Fullerton, or Cal State Fullerton, is a part of the California State University system. The University is located in the city of Fullerton, California, in northern Orange County. . APS includes the patent-pending College Academic Planner (CAP), Educational Resource Manager (ERM (Enterprise Relationship Management) An umbrella term with many shades of meaning over the years. ). This solution enables Cal State Fullerton to offer automated course planning to its students while optimizing the resources needed to deliver courses. Under the agreement, University Planet will customize APS for Cal State Fullerton based on its degree requirements, and will host the solution in an ASP model.

CAP automates the cumbersome task of course planning, focusing it on student needs and preferences as well as the university's degree requirements, so students take only what is required, helping them graduate earlier. CAP data is aggregated into ERM, which enables the university administration to know how many students want to take which courses in what school term, so that they can offer the right classes and the right number of class sections based on this varying demand. This not only helps the university optimize its resources, but also increases the chance of students getting into the classes they have planned. Finally, SCM automates course section selection for the student, while enabling administrators to load-balance their course offering to avoid under- and over-enrolled classes.

"In every decision we make regarding technology we strive to figure out whether -- and if so, when -- to implement in order to obtain the best return on investment. We believe University Planet's APS offers great promise, and is very attractive in terms of risk vs. reward," said Cal State Fullerton's Chief Information/Technology Officer, Dr. Michael Parker. "We look forward to providing the University Planet option to our faculty and students in our efforts to improve service and planning," he added.

"One of the many challenges universities are faced with today is how to manage the 36% increase in the student population forecasted for the current decade, given the limited resources they have today," said Farid Mashayekh, President & CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.
