Students and political junkies will be able to follow the elections this summer and their place in American History through IDS 326: Election 2000.

Guests will include California Secretary of State Bill Jones; Michael Bustamante, press secretary for Governor Davis; Vince Hall, former staff director for Governor Davis and chief executive officer of SimpleGov.com; California Assemblyman Anthony Pescetti; lobbyist Leslie Spahnn; and many more.

IDS 326 is an Interdisciplinary Studies course that examines the process of selecting the leaders of our communities, state and nation. Viewers will have the opportunity to follow the 2000 political campaigns in live, interactive broadcasts that will place the election in the historical context of the American Democracy.

IDS 326: Election 2000 will be broadcast Tuesday nights from June 6 through Sept. 15, from 7-10 p.m. PST. The courses will be broadcast on LA@36 in the city of Los Angeles, Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium Channel 71, TeleTV, the Pasadena cable system, and systems throughout the South Bay of Los Angeles. IDS will also be broadcast live via the Internet.

Interviews with leaders in politics and industry will provide an inside look at the mechanics of an election campaign. In addition, special coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions will provide a unique alternative to the spot news or gavel-to-gavel presentations of traditional media outlets.
