California Speedway Donates $5,000 to Meals on Wheels Ontario; Donation is Largest Ever Received by the Organization.

ONTARIO, Calif. -- Hot meals were delivered by hot wheels today when Gillian Zucker, president of California Speedway, presented a $5,000 donation to Meals on Wheels Ontario and delivered food to those in need with the help of an official NASCAR race car - the No. 20 The Home Depot Chevrolet - provided by the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

California Speedway's donation to Meals On Wheels Ontario is the largest in the organization's history, according to Vera Castro, program manager for the organization. The funds will go towards Meals on Wheels program expenses and will help keep the cost of meals at $2 for those who participate in the program.

The donation from the track was the result of an online program where $1 was donated to Meals on Wheels Ontario each time the California Speedway holiday card was sent from www.californiaspeedway.com. The card's original art, hand drawn by California Speedway Artist Tony Montano, proved popular as several hundred caring motorsports fans participated in the program and sent cards to their families and friends to raise funds for Meals on Wheels. California Speedway made up with difference to bring the donation to $5,000.

Meals on Wheels serves nearly 60 Ontario residents but has a waiting list of qualified individuals who would greatly benefit from the affordable meal delivery program. However, without much-needed financial support and the help of dedicated volunteers, the waiting list will remain a reality.

"This generous donation from California Speedway means that people who wouldn't normally be able to afford a hot, nutritional meal will continue to have one delivered right to their home for $2," said Castro. "My only hope is that this donation inspires other companies and individuals to give generously to help us add more qualified Ontario residents to the program."

"The communities surrounding California Speedway provide us with so much support that it's only appropriate for us to show our appreciation by giving back in meaningful ways," said Zucker, who served as a program chair for Meals on Wheels when she lived in Durham, North Carolina. "We are obviously thrilled to give Meals on Wheels Ontario the largest donation it has ever received. Our hope is that by providing this level of financial support, even more qualified individuals will benefit from the program all year long."

Supporting Meals on Wheels truly is a community effort. Each meal served to program participants is carefully prepared at the Ontario Senior Center by the Oldtimers Foundation of Fontana, Calif. The Oldtimers Foundation is a private, non-profit social service agency founded in 1964 that strives to maintain and improve the physical, psychological and social well being of residents in Southeast Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County.

The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest organization in the United States representing those who provide meal services to people in need. Meals on Wheels works towards the social, physical, nutritional and economic betterment of vulnerable Americans. The program provides tools and information to make a difference in the lives of others.
