California Pharmacists Association Praises Governor Davis for California State Board of Pharmacy Appointments.

The California Pharmacists Association commended Governor Davis today for appointing three practicing pharmacists to the California State Board of Pharmacy. Pharmacists Stanley W. Goldenberg, Clarence Hiura, Pharm.D., and John Tilley are all active members of the California Pharmacists Association.

"These three appointments are a huge milestone -- we are proud of these three pharmacists and are pleased with the Governor's actions," said Carlo Michelotti, R.Ph., MPH, chief executive officer of the California Pharmacists Association. "It has been a few years since a practicing pharmacist has been appointed to the State Board of Pharmacy."

"Stan has integrity and vision and will be an asset to the Board of Pharmacy," said Art Whitney, past chair of CPhA's Long Term Care Management Council and president of Pacific West Pharmacy. Pharmacist Goldenberg of Los Angeles is president of Advanced Pharmaceutical Services and serves as chair of the Long Term Management Council.

"I appreciate the Governor for selecting me once again," said Hiura, who served on the Board of Pharmacy from 1979-1986. "I would like to see the Board be more sensitive to the protection of the consumers of the state of California." A 42-year veteran of the pharmacy profession, Pharmacist Hiura is vice president of Verdugo Clinic Pharmacy in Glendale and is vice president of the California Pharmacists-Inc. board of directors.

Pharmacist Tilley's career spans more than 24 years and includes extensive involvement in professional organizations. He is a past president and trustee of CPhA and serves on the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) executive committee and American College Apothecaries board of directors. "While the duty of the Board of Pharmacy is to protect the public, it needs to fairly represent pharmacists and their practice," said Tilley, owner of Zweber Apothecary in Downey and of 26 pharmacies in Stater Brothers Super Markets.
