The contract agreement ensures continued provision of CPMC's high quality care and protects the medical center's rights to talk with employees about union organizing. It gives workers a generous wage and benefits package.

"The agreement reached today is a win-win for everyone - firstly, and most important, for our patients and our community -- but also our employees, CPMC, and the union," said Martin Brotman, M.D., President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "While the negotiations proved challenging at times, today's settlement is a testament to our joint commitment to ensuring the continuation of the highest quality health care in San Francisco, and our joint commitment to an excellent workplace for our employees."

Dr. Brotman expressed his personal appreciation to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi for her assistance in resolving the labor dispute, and to Mr. Lou Giraudo, a highly-respected civic leader and San Francisco businessman, trusted by both labor and management, who served as a constructive and effective facilitator of the negotiations.

"Their commitment to achieving an equitable compromise proved to be the key," Dr. Brotman said. "They deserve all of San Francisco's appreciation."

"We look forward to a collaborative relationship with SEIU-UHW that benefits our patients and creates the best working environment for our employees," said Dr. Brotman.
