California Microwave Wins $5 Million Wireless Communications System in Jamaica.

), the Jamaican electric power utility operation, to supply digital microwave radios for the new JPS communications system which will interconnect JPS facilities throughout the island. Work on the project already has commenced and the system is expected to be fully installed and operational in early 1997.

New Digital System

On completion of the new communications system, JPS will have the largest privately operated communications network in Jamaica. This network will enable JPS to provide a highly reliable "teleprotection" capability, which will safeguard its many substations in the event of equipment malfunction. Further, it will facilitate supervisory control and data acquisition (application) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition - (SCADA) Systems are used in industry to monitor and control plant status and provide logging facilities.
