California Micro Devices Corporation (NASDAQ NMS: CAMD), the acknowledged industry leader of the Integrated Passive Devices (IPDs) market, extends its presence in the analog CMOS arena with the announcement of their CMC7101A, first in a family of new operational amplifiers (op amps).

The CMC7101A is compatible to industry standard 7101 low power op amps like the National LMC7101A, however, California Micro Devices has refined their CMC7101A to offer performance benefits currently not available with other 7101 op amps.

The CMC7101A provides the lowest available supply voltage capability at 2.7V in a tiny five-pin SOT-23 package. As an economical alternative for these standard parts, California Micro Devices' CMC7101A is optimized for popular low voltage applications (typically 3V to 5V), and ideal for those demanding even better guaranteed specs at a 2.7V supply.

Performance

Drawing only 300 microamps from a 5V supply, the CMC7101A rail-to-rail input and output (RRIO) op amp has a 1 MHz gain bandwidth and 1V/microsecond slew rate. Its common-mode input range exceeds the rails by 300mV, while the output can drive greater than 75mA. At a 600 Ohms load, the output drives to within 100mV of the rails, even with only a 2.7V supply. When compared to other industry standard 7101 op amps, the CMC7101A exhibits enhanced performance benefits:

-- Supply current only 300 microamps (vs. 500 microamps for the LMC7101A), for improved battery life in portable devices.

-- Drives 600 Ohm loads -- even from a 2.7V single supply.
